Registration Requirements
To register an antique vehicle in Virginia, you will need the following:
- Proof of ownership (title or bill of sale)
- Valid Virginia driver's license or ID card
- $50 antique license plate fee
- Proof of insurance
Antique vehicles are exempt from safety and emissions inspections.
Insurance Requirements
Antique vehicles must be insured with motor vehicle liability insurance. The minimum coverage limits are:
- $25,000 for bodily injury or death of one person
- $50,000 for bodily injury or death of two or more people
- $20,000 for property damage
You can also purchase additional coverage, such as collision and comprehensive insurance.
Definition of an Antique Vehicle
A vehicle is considered an antique in Virginia if it is at least 25 years old and is owned solely for preservation, collection, or exhibition purposes. The vehicle must not be used for daily transportation.
