Sunrise Sports: Ikenaga earns Big West POW, Waianae boxer wins pro debut

Ikenaga repeats as Big West Player of the Week

University of Hawai‘i sophomore outside hitter Riley Ikenaga (Kamehameha-Maui) has been named the Big West Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row.

Ikenaga was dominant in the Rainbow Wahine's two road wins last week. She led the team with 3.50 kills per set and a .340 hitting percentage, while also averaging 2.86 digs per set.

Ikenaga had 13 kills and 12 digs in a sweep of CSU Bakersfield on Thursday, and followed that up with 17 kills and 11 digs in a four-set win at CSUN on Saturday.

The Rainbow Wahine are now 11-5 overall and 4-0 in the Big West. They will return to action on Thursday when they host UC Irvine at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

Waianae boxer Ioka earns pro debut win in Japan

Waianae boxer Ryan Ioka earned a unanimous decision victory in his professional debut on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan.

Ioka, the son of four-division world champion Donnie Ioka, defeated Japanese fighter Ryosuke Ito over six rounds in the super flyweight division.

Ioka controlled the fight from the outset, using his superior boxing skills and footwork to outclass his opponent. He landed the cleaner punches throughout the fight, and Ito was never really a threat.

The win is a promising start to Ioka's professional career. He is now 1-0 and will look to build on this momentum in his next fight.
