MLB: Mets Wash Away Braves at Home, Improve To 8-3 Record

New York Mets Defeat Atlanta Braves 7-2

After securing their fifth series victory and extending their current win streak to four, the New York Mets hosted the Atlanta Braves at Citi Field on Saturday, April 15th, with both teams at 7-3 before the game. Despite facing Max Fried, a reigning All-Star, the Mets offense had another strong performance, giving the Braves' bullpen an early scare.

In typical Mets fashion, the team struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning. Brandon Nimmo led off the inning with a double and was then singled home by Starling Marte. Eduardo Escobar singled Marte to third, and a groundout by Jeff McNeil brought Marte home. The Mets put up another three runs in the 2nd inning, highlighted by a two-run single from Mark Canha.

The Mets chased Fried after 3.1 innings, scoring six runs on nine hits, walking twice, and striking out just twice. Trevor Williams, making his first relief appearance of the season, allowed one more run before being lifted in the 5th inning for Joely Rodriguez.

Despite allowing two runs over the first five innings, the Mets bullpen turned in another impressive performance. Rodriguez threw two scoreless innings, striking out three while allowing just one hit. Seth Lugo followed with a scoreless 7th inning, and Adam Ottavino put the Braves away in the 8th and 9th innings, striking out four of the six batters he faced.

This marks the second time this season that the Mets bullpen has thrown at least 5.2 scoreless innings, with the first time coming in the series opener against the Philadelphia Phillies on April 11th.

Upcoming Schedule

The Mets will face the Braves one more time on Sunday, April 16th, before traveling to Miami to face the Marlins for a three-game series starting on Monday, April 17th.
